A unique kind of housing product is proposed for Maple Grove that aims to fill a need for millennials. They are new single-family homes that instead of owning, people can rent.

The Maple Grove Planning Commission reviewed plans Monday night for 66 single-family rental homes at a 15-acre site near Weaver Lake Road and Forestview Lane North.

The project called Mills Creek is named after the sawmills in Maple Grove's early history and would be built on land currently owned by MnDOT. The project would have a clubhouse, patio and outdoor recreation.

At this point, things are in the preliminary stage. But one resident in the area welcomes the possible development.

"It would be okay," said Stephen Wreh of Maple Grove. "Bringing new units here that spells out the fact that development is coming and development brings a lot of opportunities. It's okay. It's okay to do so. I'm excited to see new units here."

Rent could range between $1,800 and $2,300 a month. The Maple Grove City Council will review the proposal March 20.
